Ukraine's president said almost 6,000 Russians had been killed in the first six days of their invasion of Ukraine.
Volodymyr Zelensky said in a video address on Wednesday morning: "Russian mothers are losing their children in a completely foreign country. Think of this number: almost 6,000 Russians died, Russian military, in six days of war."
He said this figure did not include any deaths on Tuesday night.
The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine also said on Wednesday that it estimated 30 Russian planes, 31 Russian helicopters, and 211 Russian tanks had been destroyed, as well as 862 Russian armored personnel carriers.
The number of Ukrainian military deaths is unclear.
Russia has not given figures for how many of its citizens have been killed. It first acknowledged losses in the war on Sunday, but did not give a figure.
The New York Times reported on Tuesday that neither Ukraine nor Russia's estimates of military losses had been independently verified, and that senior Pentagon officials estimated on Monday that around 1,500 military personnel had been killed on each side.
Ukraine's parliament said in a Telegram post on Wednesday that 2,000 civilians had been killed.
Zelensky has tried to directly appeal to the Russian people to oppose the invasion, and has appealed to Russian mothers to stop their sons from taking part. But it is not clear how much of that messaging would be able to reach Russian people under government restrictions.
